You move away tomorrow. Not to go away to college or to go away for church camp, but to start your career and your adult life. LORD willing, this time next year you will be through the Police Academy and starting as a Rookie Police Officer. Other than (hopefully) the occasional overnight stay for holidays, our home will no longer be your address. (Shew. That last line was hard to type.)
Your future is bright and I can’t wait to see your dreams come true, but I need you to know something. While you may be filing a change of address tomorrow and updating your license next week, this will always be your home. We will always be your family. This will always be your soft place to fall and be loved and accepted for who you are. No conditions. No strings attached. Just unending love for our Daniel.

And when you have a great day and there’s much to celebrate, we will be here to celebrate with you.

And you better believe we expect you to come home at Christmas to buy your Hallmark Ornament and bake cookies and open new PJs and watch Christmas Vacation and open way too many presents.

And when you have a bad day and you need to be reminded who you are and whose you are, we will be just a phone call away.

And when you wonder if you are loved, we will be right here to remind you that we are crazy about you.

And when you get to put on that uniform for the first time, I’ll be thinking of that little boy who lived in his Buzz Lightyear Costume. My little boy who has always wanted to be the hero. My little boy who always has wanted to help people. When I see you run into danger, I will see this sweet two year old face. And I’ll be praying that God will hold you close no matter what danger you face.

And if there’s ever a day when you wonder if you’ve made me proud… please know the answer is every single day. You have made me proud every single day of your life. I love you so much. I have been so honored to get to be your momma. And no matter what happens, I will always love you and I will always be so proud to be your momma. Never, ever forget that.

Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everwhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track.” Proverbs 3:5-6 MSG
Love,
Mom
